Graphic Design: Year 2
By my second year of designing, I was comfortable with the tools I would be using to create artwork; the next step was learning to take advantage of them through the fundamentals of design. My second year as a graphic designer features a use of simple shapes and strategic composition, as these subjects are essential knowledge to any good designer.
01
Exploration of typography
Understanding typography is easily one of the fundamentals of being a well rounded designer. During my second year as a graphic designer, I recreated various typographic designs with my own names via Adobe Illustrator
02
Exploration of Shape and Color
Understanding shape and color are easily some of the fundamentals of being a well rounded designer. During my second year as a graphic designer, I translated various images with varying complexities into simple shapes and colors. The essential objective was to make the image recognizable while still being a simplification.
03
Medieval Manuscript
Having an understanding of design through the ages is essential to being culturally aware when designing. After studying the techniques used to create medieval manuscripts, I created one of my own, "illuminated" it with modern day materials.
04
Dissecting Typography
Before creating a font, it is important to understand typography as a compositional art rather than letters. This project was an introduction to this concept, where I broke down each piece of the letter by placement and use.
06
Screen Time to Stress Levels
Using my knowledge of composition, I created a informational graphic to show the correlation between screen time and stress levels. I implemented a green color palette and an overall gross aesthetic to represent the overall toxic relationship between the two.
07
Coldplay "Yellow" Album Cover Redesign
This design is a album cover for Coldplay's "Yellow". The cover shows a hand holding an umbrella shading from the rain, which represents the protective nature of the song.
08
Paula Scher Typography
This piece was initially inspired by Paula Scher's use of typography and composition in her layouts, but evolved into a much more meaningful piece. This piece was created during the height of the pandemic, and anxiety was running high throughout the world, and I channeled this anxiety into the lines, shapes and colors of the piece.
09
Monograms
Every business has a logo, including designers. I broke down my initials into their base shapes, and created various compositions with them. I ended with over 20 versions of possible monograms, and the ones featured are the final contenders.
