Graphic Design: Year 3
My third year as a graphic designer was when I began to explore who I am stylistically. I had lots of experience with the fundamentals of design by this point, so I spent my third year designing strategically with these principles.

The Tustin Student Film Festival Poster was inspired by the workings of a camera lens. The "TUSTIN" typography was built around the composition of a camera lens resulting in its cyclical design. The poster was given an overall modern feel to appeal to the technological side of filmmaking.

Personal Pictograms
The inspiration for the Pictogram project as a whole was the designs used to represent each of the sports in the Olympics, specifically the ones used for the most recent 2021 games. Being in cheer, I can relate to a microscopic - but still relevant - amount of the athleticism demonstrated by the gymnasts in the games. I used a picture of me doing a back tuck for reference, and broke my figure into the most basic and immediately recognizable geometrics, rather than trying to fully mimic the complexity of the human skeleton. The circles surrounding the figure are represent the basic motion of the rotation. Ultimately the intention behind the design was to break down a movement into its mechanics.

Melting Lady
The Melting Woman was an exploration of perspective and attempting to design a face with as few shapes as possible for the face itself. I used all organic shapes in order to give the visual of melting. The monochromatic color palette was done to give the piece depth without using traditional coloring and shadowing. I decided to use organic shapes since humans are made up of extremely complex shapes that are far from geometric.

Negative Space Otter
In Graphics 3, I have been learning to view human life via shape and through a more abstract and simplified lense; rather than trying to mimic life's vitality, I have been attempting to just simply draw exactly what I observe. The nose monograms have been a simple observation of the centerpiece of human faces and trying to strip it of its humanity and translate it through basic line, shape, and composition.

Heart on Your Sleeve
Similarly to the Nose Monograms, when creating this project I viewed humans and concepts in a geometric sense, which is a useful skill when creating abstract visuals such as logos. I replicated the saying "Heart on your sleeve" in a literal sense, depicting a man with a heart on his wrist.
